Model Number:
FMJ-250

The FMJ-250 High Pressure Syringe is unique, patented instrument syringe that permits air-free aerosol administration of precise doses of either 25µl or 50µl (or combinations of those volumes) up to a maximum of 250µl. It is the only syringe of its kind and is required for use with the Penn-Century MicroSprayer® Aerosolizer Model IA-1C. Together the MicroSprayer® and syringe generate a soft, highly concentrated, low-momentum plume of aerosol with comfortable manual pressure.

  • Capable of generating a highly concentrated aerosol directly into the lungs
  • Air-free system – uses no propellant or compressed air
  • No air burden to subject
  • Unique patented design is light, hand-held, easy to use, purely mechanical
  • Widely tested with a range of pharmaceutical and bioactive compounds
  • Fully sterilizable. May also be autoclaved or sonicated
  • Set of dosing “spacers” supplied with each syringe to permit precise administration of 25µl or 50µl doses, or combinations of those volumes

Required for use with MicroSprayer® Aerosolizer – Model IA-1C

  • Description: Unique patented air-free, gas tight syringe
  • Operating Pressure: Operates at up to 3000 psi.
  • Hub: 1/4-28 tpi (Note: Not a luer hub)
  • Materials: Constructed of stainless steel and chemically-resistant components with a replaceable plunger with a PFTE (Teflon®) tip. May be used with any length Model IA-1C.
  • Maximum Capacity: 250 µl (microliters).
  • Dose increments: Two sets of volume spacers are provided with each syringe. These are attached to the plunger, and removed one by one, per instructions provided, to permit precise single doses of either 25-µl or 50-µl, or combinations of those amounts. Syringe holds multiple doses.
  • Re-usable/Sterilizable: Can be cleaned and sterilized with hot water, organic solvents, or by autoclave or ultrasound.

The Penn-Century FMJ-250 High-Pressure Syringe is a patented, air-free, gas-tight instrument syringe. The syringe comes with several accessories for use in filling the syringe, administering precise aerosol dose volumes and for removing or purging any air that may become trapped inside the syringe.

Special dose volume spacers are provided that are attached to the rod of the plunger, pressed together tightly and removed one by one for precise measurement of individual aerosol doses. (See Instructions for Use.)

  • The FMJ-250 High-Pressure Syringe is made of stainless steel and other chemically resistant components, and designed to be sterilized, and/or autoclaved at standard autoclave temperatures.
  • The syringe is opaque and has no external measurement marks. A set of dose volume “spacers” is provided with each to device to permit accurate measurements of doses of either 25 microliters or 50 microliters, or combinations of those amounts.
  • The syringe is designed for precise administration of aerosol doses from 25 µl to 250 µl. It has a maximum capacity of 250 microliters.
  • Each user receives a set of five 25-microliter spacers and five 50-microliter spacers. These can be combined to make precise dose volumes of 75 or 100 microliters.
  • These volume spacers are attached to the plunger of the syringe, pushed tightly together and carefully removed one by one. The gap or space that remains is equal to one dose of that particular volume. In this way, multiple small doses can be administered with one full syringe.
  • Fill the syringe by attaching a luer-type blunt needle. Users are instructed never to load the FMJ-250 High Pressure Syringe through the MicroSprayer® Aerosolizer. This may cause the sprayer tip to become blocked or clogged. FMJ-250 High-Pressure Syringe does not have a luer fitting that accepts standard luer-type needles. Detailed instructions are provided with the syringe on methods to fill it 1) directly, 2) by use of the Air Purge Kit provided, or 3) by attaching the Luer-Lock Adapter provided and attaching a luer-type needle to the syringe, such as a blunt-tipped dosing needle or hypodermic needle.
  • Air Purge Kit. The FMJ-250 High-Pressure Syringe is designed to operate without any air, by manual pressure only. If air bubbles become trapped inside the syringe, it will affect the performance of the MicroSprayer® Aerosolizer and the quality of the aerosol that is produced, particularly when administering small dose volumes. An Air Purge Kit is provided that permits the user to “overfill” the syringe with water or their test formula to force out any air bubbles prior to use.
  • Replacement plungers. The white PFTE tip of the plunger of the FMJ-250 High-Pressure Syringe may become worn or damaged after frequent use or from over-pressuring the plunger, if there is a blockage in the system. If this occurs, it may affect the quality and uniformity of the aerosol or cause leaking from the proximal end of the syringe. Replacement plungers are available for purchase without having to replace the entire syringe.

See our Instructions for Use for complete details on correct methods to:

  • Fill the syringe
  • Purge air bubbles from the syringe
  • Attach dosing spacers
  • Use syringe with the MicroSprayer® Aerosolizer – Model IA-1C
  • Clean and sterilize syringe
  • Store the syringe
